The site of this subtype of wet football every year becomes Bourton-on-the-Water, where the river Windrush. This bubbling stream of water is 3 meters wide, runs along the main street of Bourton and divides the town into two parts. «Football in the River» is held here for over 70 years. The local team of six men put on a parody of sports uniforms, and sometimes other fancy outfits.

Challenging the ice flow, they put gates at the central bridge, and start the game, running knee-deep in water! Since playing in the water rather tedious, the match lasts usually 90 minutes, and only 30 - 15 minutes at halftime. Despite this, hundreds of people gather on the banks of the river to cheer their favorite team.
